Two Taylorville FFA Members Receive American Degree

At the 86th National FFA Convention, held in Louisville, Kentucky, Taylorville had two FFA members obtain the highest degree that is possible for an FFA member to attain, the American FFA Degree. Rochelle Meteer and Kyle Hadden walked across the stage November 2nd in front of an audience of over 30,000 FFA members, parents, and guests.

To obtain the American FFA Degree, recipients must keep an accurate SAE record book for at least four years including making over $10,000 dollars in net profits. Also, they must log over 1500 hours in their particular SAE areas and perform at least 300 hours of community service. Kyle and Rochelle began their SAE projects as freshman in high school.
Rochelle Meteer's SAE project was in Animal Science and Beef Production. Throughout Rochelle's FFA career, she has been extremely competitive in a variety of Science Fair Exhibitions. She competed at the State and National FFA Agriscience Fair and several local and state IJSA Science Fairs as well. Rochelle also had a very productive Hereford Cattle Project and Veterinarian Science Placement SAE. Currently she is a sophomore at Lincoln Land Community College in the Agriculture Transfer Program. She plans to transfer to the University of Illinois and study Veterinary Medicine. Rochelle is the daughter of W. Lee and Karla Meteer.
Kyle Hadden's SAE projects were in the area of Diversified Livestock Production. Over Kyle's FFA career he worked hard with his cattle, swine, and sheep operations. The main focus of his cattle operation was to produce productive replacement females that helped improve his herd. His swine operation was established to produced pigs for Kyle to show at FFA and 4-H shows. Kyle is currently a Senior honors student at the University of Illinois and plans to attend Medical school. His career goal is to be a General Medical Practitioner in a rural community. Kyle is the son of Kenny and Susan Hadden.

These two individuals have obtained their American FFA Degree due to their dedication to their SAE projects. Over their FFA careers they have won numerous awards at the chapter, section, state, and national levels. Being awarded the American FFA Degree sets these students among the top ½ of one percent of all FFA members in the country. Taylorville FFA is proud of their accomplishments and all that they have brought to the chapter. Only 22 Taylorville FFA members have obtained this prestigious degree in the Taylorville FFA chapter since 1948.
